MobilityOne, which runs payment services mainly in Malaysia, such as mobile phone top-ups, bill payments and money transfers abroad, saw revenue fall 4.7% to £230.2m in the year to 31 December 2024. Its loss after tax widened to £3.4m from £1.4m the year before.
The report puts this down to softer demand for phone top-ups and bill payments in Malaysia, and higher spending on marketing and administration to win and keep customers. Interest costs also rose, and the company took a bigger share of losses from a hospital software business it part-owns. One-off costs were small.
Cash at the year end was £4.0m, but borrowings rose to £7.1m from £4.2m. No new shares were issued and no dividend was paid. The company still owes £4,983,537 for its stake in the hospital software business. Paying this depends largely on a merger deal outside its control, and if the money is not paid it plans to hand the stake back. Management expects a challenging 2025 and has adopted a turnaround plan. The auditor raised no doubt about the company's ability to keep going, relying partly on support promised by the chief executive, who is the controlling shareholder.
