RUA Life Sciences makes and licenses materials and parts for implanted medical devices. Revenue rose to £6.7m from £2.2m, and the loss before tax narrowed to £236k from £2.0m. This report covers 18 months, against 12 months the year before, so the figures are not directly comparable.

Most growth came from making devices and parts for other companies, helped by buying the French firm Abiss in September 2024. The result was flattered by a one-off £0.9m non-cash gain from buying Abiss for less than its assets were worth; without it, the loss before tax was £1.1m. Lower research spending and fewer senior roles cut costs.

Cash at the period end was £3.2m, down from £3.9m, and borrowings were £73k. No money was raised from shareholders and no dividend was proposed. Management says its goals of doubling revenue and using less cash were met early, and it plans further growth. The auditor raised no concerns and the directors found no doubt about the company continuing to trade, though the report warns of growing reliance on a few large customers.

What management said

The two year objectives set at the time of the 2023 Strategy Review, of doubling revenues, reducing cash burn and focussing on profitability have been achieved ahead of time through strong trading and the purchase of the Abiss subsidiary in France. We look forward to building upon this success through broadening both services for current customers and expanding the customer base further.
